MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery outside of Arlington on Sunday that may be linked to a previous shooting.

According to SCSO, on June 4, a man was robbed at gunpoint in a field at the 8600 block of Collierville-Arlington Road where two suspects took his cell phone and wallet.

Deputies say both suspects were described as black males wearing all black. Both suspects also carried a gun, but one of the suspects was wearing a black tactical vest with no Sheriff or Police markings, with a gold circle-shaped badge

Luis Mireles said he was the person robbed in the Shelby County incident. Luis’ cousin Emanuel Mireles translated and said Luis was working alone in the field at the time.

Mireles said his cousin, who speaks very little English, was in the process of calling someone on the phone to find out what the pair wanted.

"As he was looking up, there was this guy who came up to him and asked him something," Mireles said. "They were actually asking for directions as if they were lost."

Mireles said things quickly turned bad as one suspect raised a gun.

"He pulled the gun out and pointed it at him. As he saw the gun and everything he was scared and just handed over his wallet and his phone was taken from him," he said.

The suspects took a $1,200 phone, $500 in cash, and a check for $2,000 before leaving in a black vehicle. Luis Mireles said he saw the vehicle moments before the robbery and it followed him down Collierville-Arlington Road.

The suspects left the scene in what appeared to be an early 2000s black, four-door Chevrolet Malibu, which had severe damage to the front windshield and dark tint on the windows, deputies say.

Mireles was shocked to learn the pair may be the same that shot and robbed an unsuspecting motorist Monday in Tipton County.

"He's not scared to drive or work or anything. He just thanks God that he wasn't shot after he heard the news about the other person," he said.

The Tipton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that is believed to have the same suspects.
